MANILA — Samsung and Huawei both teased the announcement of nearly all-screen phones with a circular cutout for the front-facing camera before the end of the year.
The world’s two largest smartphone vendors posted outlines of the devices on their respective verified accounts on Chinese social media platform Weibo.
Samsung has largely stuck to slim top and bottom bezels for its Galaxy line of phones. During a developer conference last month, it announced possible cutout designs for its screens, including an “Infinity O” shape.
Huawei has adopted the front screen notch, similar to that on the Apple iPhone X and XS, for its P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro. A smaller “dewdrop” notch appears on the Mate 20.
The 2 manufacturers also raced to put more cameras on the rear. Huawei put 3 lenses on the back of the P20 Pro and Mate 20 series while Samsung has 4 on the Galaxy A9.
